By using CivicLens at civic-lens.com or embedding the CivicLens widget on your city website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
CivicLens is a civic information platform that translates government documents, including city council agendas and ballot information, into plain English. CivicLens is not a government agency and is not affiliated with any government entity.
Plain English summaries on CivicLens are generated for informational purposes only. They are not legal documents and do not constitute legal advice. The official government document is the authoritative record in all cases.
CivicLens makes reasonable efforts to ensure accuracy but does not guarantee that summaries are complete, current or error-free. Candidate and officeholder data reflects the official source document at the time it was entered. Always verify current information with your local election authority or government agency.
Do not rely on CivicLens content to make legal, financial or voting decisions without consulting the official government source.
Candidate data on CivicLens is sourced from official election authority documents and is cited with a source and date on every race card. CivicLens is not responsible for changes made by election authorities after the source document date. Verify registration deadlines, polling place locations and candidate status with your local election authority before election day.
Plain English translations of city council agenda items are generated from content submitted by city staff. CivicLens is not responsible for errors in the source content submitted by city staff. All translations include a notice that the official agenda is the authoritative record.
Cities using the Packet Review Console review and approve translations before publication. CivicLens is not liable for translations that were approved and published by city staff.
CivicLens is an independent private company. Use of CivicLens by a city does not make CivicLens a government contractor, agent or representative of that city. CivicLens does not speak on behalf of any government entity.
Cities that embed the CivicLens widget on their website do so voluntarily. The widget displays CivicLens content in an iframe. Cities are responsible for ensuring their website meets applicable accessibility and legal standards. CivicLens is not liable for ADA or WCAG compliance issues arising from how a city integrates the widget.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CivicLens LLC is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of this service, including but not limited to reliance on inaccurate translations, missed voter registration deadlines or election errors.
CivicLens LLC's total liability to any party shall not exceed the amount paid by that party to CivicLens in the 12 months preceding the claim, which for residents using the free public platform is zero.
CivicLens is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. CivicLens does not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
CivicLens collects anonymized page view data to measure resident engagement. No personal resident information is collected or sold. See the full privacy policy for details.
