FINANCIAL LITERACY EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS OP- 1 ERATED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE 2 EDUCATION ACTIVITY. 3 (a) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of Defense, acting 4 through the Director of the Department of Defense Edu- 5 cation Activity, shall require that each student of a high 6 school operated by the Activity complete a dedicated 7 course of instruction in financial literacy as a prerequisite 8 to graduating from such school. 9 (b) APPLICABILITY.—The graduation requirement 10 under subsection (a) shall apply with respect to students 11 of high schools operated by the Department of Defense 12 Education Activity beginning with the cohort of students 13 who enter ninth grade in the first school year that begins 14 one year after the date of the enactment of this Act. 15 (c) DEFINITIONS.—In this Act, the term ‘‘high 16 school’’ has the meaning given that term in section 8101 17 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 18 (20 U.S.C. 7801). 19 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 16:03 Jul 16, 2023 Jkt 039200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H4118.IH H4118 pbinns on DSKJLVW7X2PROD with $$_JOB
