was read twice and referred to the Committee on Armed Services
A BILL
To require the Secretary of Defense to provide housing ac-
commodations for members of the Armed Forces and
their dependents who are on military housing waitlists.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Military Housing Wait
4
Times Accountability Act’’.
5
SEC. 2. HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS FOR MILITARY FAMI-
6
LIES ON HOUSING WAITLISTS.

(a) WAITLIST ACCOMMODATIONS.—The Secretary of

Defense shall provide to members of the Armed Forces

and their dependents who, when undergoing a permanent
1
change of station, are placed on a waitlist for on-base
2
housing for a period of more than 10 days following the
3
date of arrival at the new location, temporary accommoda-
4
tions for the entire duration of such period appropriate
5
for the total size and composition of the family of the
6
member and at a rate not to exceed the basic allowance
7
for housing calculated for such member under section 403
8
of title 37, United States Code.

(b) REPORT.—Not later than 180 days after the date
10
of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense
11
shall submit to the congressional defense committees a re-
12
port containing—
13
(1) installation-specific data on the number of
14
members of the Armed Forces and their dependents
15
on military housing waitlists;
16
(2) an identification of the time spent by each
17
such member and their dependents awaiting appro-
18
priate housing accommodations;
19
(3) an analysis of the factors that are creating
20
the need for such waitlists; and
21
(4) an assessment of the causes of waitlist du-
22
rations that exceed 10 days.
