CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE— 2025–2026 REGULAR SESSION House Resolution No. 121 Introduced by Assembly Member Alanis June 10, 2026 Relative to California Wildflower Week. Digest Key Bill Text WHEREAS, California is home to one of the most diverse collections of native wildflowers in the United States, with over 500 endemic flowering plants and more than 6,000 plant species, that create vibrant seasonal displays throughout the state; and WHEREAS, Each spring and early summer, California’s landscapes feature displays of poppies, lupines, goldfields, and other native wildflowers that attract visitors from across the state and beyond; and WHEREAS, California Wildflower Week is observed during the week of May 4 to May 10, 2026, inclusive, providing an opportunity to celebrate the natural beauty of the state and to recognize the vital ecological role that native wildflowers play in supporting pollinators, wildlife habitats, and healthy ecosystems; and WHEREAS, Native wildflowers contribute to biodiversity, improve soil health, promote water conservation through climate-adapted growth, and support bees, butterflies, and other species essential to California’s environment and agricultural economy; and WHEREAS, The California poppy, designated as the official state flower in 1903, has long symbolized the natural beauty and identity of the Golden State; and WHEREAS, State parks, regional preserves, and community open spaces provide opportunities for residents and visitors to experience seasonal wildflower blooms firsthand, while fostering an appreciation for conservation and outdoor recreation; and WHEREAS, The 22nd Assembly District is proud to be home to Dos Rios State Park, the first new California state park to open in nearly a decade, representing a significant investment in habitat restoration, public access, and environmental preservation; and WHEREAS, Dos Rios State Park serves as a model of modern conservation, transforming restored floodplain and riparian habitat into accessible public space for visitors to experience native landscapes and seasonable wildflower blooms; and WHEREAS, California Wildflower Week serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting native landscapes for future generations while encouraging residents to responsibly and respectfully enjoy the outdoors; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly hereby recognizes the week of May 4 to May 10, 2026, inclusive, as California Wildflower Week; and be it further Resolved, That the Assembly calls upon all Californians to recognize California Wildflower Week and to celebrate the beauty, importance, and cultural significance of California’s native wildflowers; and be it further Resolved, That the Assembly commends ongoing conservation efforts, including the opening of Dos Rios State Park in the 22nd Assembly District, and encourages all Californians to explore and appreciate state parks, open spaces, and seasonal blooms; and be it further Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
