(Ord. 253 § 1(14), 1966) 15.04.160 - Taxicab owners. (Ord. 253 § 1(15), 1966) 15.04.170 - Taximeters. (Ord. 253 § 1(16), 1966) 15.04.180 - Taxicab motor carriers. SHARE LINK TO SECTION PRINT SECTION DOWNLOAD (DOCX) OF SECTIONS EMAIL SECTION COMPARE VERSIONS The term "taxicab motor carrier" means any person operating a motor vehicle or vehicles designed or constructed to accommodate and transport not more than six passengers in number, including the driver; fitted with taximeters or having some other device, method, or system to indicate and determine the passenger fare charged for distance traveled; used in the transportation of passengers for which a charge, fee, compensation, or donation of value, or gratuity, is received for the rendition of services involving the transportation of persons and their property, baggage, or effects; and any such vehicle is operated in such service which is held out to the public as being available for the transportation of passengers from place to place anywhere in Clark County or the state of Nevada. However, neither common motor carriers of passengers, nor contract motor carriers, conducting fixed-route operations, shall be considered taxicab motor carriers. (Ord. 253 § 1(17), 1966) 15.04.190 - Not a motor vehicle registration law. The permit, license, and franchise fees or taxes herein provided shall be in addition to the motor vehicle registration license fees that are now or may hereafter be required under the laws of the state of Nevada. (Ord. 253 § 2, 1966) 15.04.200 - Driver deemed owner. SHARE LINK TO SECTION PRINT SECTION DOWNLOAD (DOCX) OF SECTIONS EMAIL SECTION COMPARE VERSIONS For the purpose of this title, the operator of a taxicab motor vehicle, as herein defined, whether a single taxicab or part of a fleet, shall be deemed to be the owner of such taxicab motor vehicle or vehicles; and the lessee and lessor of such a taxicab motor vehicle are jointly and severally liable for any fees, taxes, penalties, or interest owed to Clark County. A person who is merely an employee-driver of a taxicab, shall not be deemed to be an operator or owner of a taxicab or taxicabs who shall be subject to such joint several liability. (Ord. 253 § 3, 1966) 15.04.210 - Leased or rented taxicabs. No person holding a public service commission certificate and Clark County franchise for the operation of a taxicab shall enter into any lease, rental, or commission agreement or arrangement under which he does not have full and complete control of the vehicle at all times. No such vehicle shall be subject to any contract for sale, conditional sale, chattel mortgage, or lease between the certificate and franchise holder and an employee. Every driver of a taxicab shall be either the certificate and franchise holder, or the direct employee of the certificate and franchise holder. (Ord. 253 § 4, 1966) 15.04.220 - Display of rates. Such rates shall be clearly visible to the occupants in the rear. If such vehicle is authorized to operate under a zone tariff, there shall be posted within such vehicle a map clearly visible to occupants in the rear, and showing the territory served with the zones outlined thereon and applicable fares stated thereon. (Ord. 253 § 5, 1966) 15.04.230 - Taximeter required. SHARE LINK TO SECTION PRINT SECTION DOWNLOAD (DOCX) OF SECTIONS EMAIL SECTION COMPARE VERSIONS All taxicabs subject to the provisions of this title and operated within Clark County shall be equipped with taximeters fastened in front of the passengers visible to them at all times of the day and night; and after sundown, the face of the taximeter shall be illuminated. The taximeter shall be of standard design and construction and shall be connected with and operated from the transmission of the taxicab to which it is attached. Taximeters shall be sealed at all points and connections which, if manipulated, would affect their correct reading and recording. Each taximeter shall have thereon a flag to denote when the vehicle is employed and when it is not employed; and it shall be the duty of the driver to throw the flag of such taximeter into a recording position when employed, and into a nonrecording position at the termination of each trip. The taximeters shall be subject to inspection from time to time as may be directed by the sheriff. Any inspector or other officer of the office of the sheriff is hereby authorized, either on complaint of any person or without such complaint, to inspect any meter and, upon discovery of any inaccuracy therein, to notify the person operating said taxicab to cease operation of the taxicab. Thereupon, the taxicab shall be kept off the streets until the taximeter is repaired and in the required working condition.
