      S.C.R. No. 5         SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION   WHEREAS, Texas School for the Deaf alumnus Robert Rives was a   dedicated educator and a trailblazing figure in the state's deaf   and hard of hearing community; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Rives became the first TSD alumnus to attend the   prestigious National College, which is today known as Gallaudet   University, in Washington, D.C.; following his graduation in 1893,   he embarked on a rewarding career as a teacher at TSD that spanned   more than four decades; he also served as the school's first   football coach from 1894 to 1898, achieving a record of 10-8-1;   among his many honors, he was inducted into the Texas School for the   Deaf Alumni Association Hall of Fame in the sports category in 1999;   and          WHEREAS, Robert Rives continues to be a source of inspiration   to young athletes at the Texas School for the Deaf, and the naming   of the TSD middle school gymnasium in his honor would be a fitting   tribute to his legacy; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas   hereby direct the Texas School for the Deaf to name its middle   school gymnasium the Robert Rives Gymnasium; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official   copy of this resolution to the Governing Board of the Texas School   for the Deaf.         ______________________________ ______________________________      President of the Senate Speaker of the House              ______________________________ ______________________________      President of the Senate Speaker of the House                 I hereby certify that S.C.R. No. 5 was adopted by the Senate   on March 19, 2025, by the following vote:  Yeas 31, Nays 0.   ______________________________                                               Secretary of the Senate          I hereby certify that S.C.R. No. 5 was adopted by the House   on May 23, 2025, by the following vote:  Yeas 129, Nays 5,   two present not voting.   ______________________________                                               Chief Clerk of the House       Approved:     ______________________________                Date       ______________________________              Governor
