PLAN FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO CERTAIN AIRCRAFT 1 SHELTERS FOR AVIATION ASSETS IN INDO- 2 PACIFIC REGION. 3 (a) IDENTIFICATION OF AIRCRAFT SHELTERS.— 4 (1) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of Defense 5 shall conduct a classified survey to identify each 6 United States aircraft shelter in the Indo-Pacific re- 7 gion, including in the First, Second, and Third Is- 8 land Chains, that— 9 (A) is responsible for responding to aggres- 10 sion by the People’s Republic of China against 11 Taiwan; and 12 (B) has not been improved to mitigate 13 damage to aircraft in the event of a missile, 14 aerial drone, or other form of attack by the 15 People’s Republic of China. 16 (2) REPORT.—Not later than 120 days after 17 the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary 18 of Defense shall submit to the appropriate commit- 19 tees of Congress a report on the results of the sur- 20 vey under paragraph (1). 21 (b) PLAN.—Not later than 60 days after the date on 22 which the report required by paragraph (2) of subsection 23 (a) is submitted, the Secretary of Defense shall submit 24 to the appropriate committees of Congress a plan to imple- 25 ment improvements to the shelters identified under that 26 VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:08 May 23, 2023 Jkt 039200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\S1566.IS S1566 pbinns on DSKJLVW7X2PROD with $$_JOB 3 •S 1566 IS subsection so as to increase aircraft survivability in the 1 event of a missile, aerial drone, or other form of attack 2 by the People’s Republic of China. 3 (c) FORM.—The report and plan required by this sec- 4 tion shall be submitted in classified form. 5 (d) APPROPRIATE COMMITTEES OF CONGRESS DE- 6 FINED.—In this section, the term ‘‘appropriate commit- 7 tees of Congress’’ means— 8 (1) the Committee on Armed Services, the 9 Committee on Appropriations, and the Committee on 10 Foreign Relations of the Senate; and 11 (2) the Committee on Armed Services, the 12 Committee on Appropriations, and the Committee on 13 Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives. 14 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:08 May 23, 2023 Jkt 039200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\S1566.IS S1566 pbinns on DSKJLVW7X2PROD with $$_JOB
