HR1276 - Commending Lucious Williams of DeSoto for his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

      H.R. No. 1276       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Lucious Williams of DeSoto served his country with   distinction during the Korean War; and          WHEREAS, In 1952, at the age of 20, Lucious Williams was   drafted into the U.S. Army; President Harry S. Truman had committed   U.S. air, ground, and naval forces to the United Nations Command in   1950 to assist the noncommunist Republic of Korea after North   Korean troops had invaded, and Mr. Williams deployed to Korea with   the 58th Field Artillery Battalion; his regiment played a crucial   role in the Battle of Kumsong, one of the last major engagements in   the Korean War before the signing of an armistice in 1953; during   his 18 months in the military, he attained the rank of corporal; he   received a number of decorations, among them the National Defense   Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations   Service Medal Korea; and          WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge in 1954,   Mr. Williams continued to serve his fellow citizens by joining the   Cook County Sheriff's Department in Illinois; he went on to found   Dikita Enterprises, now considered the oldest African   American-owned engineering and consulting company in North Texas;   the firm has been involved in numerous major infrastructure   projects for such entities as Dallas Area Rapid Transit, DFW   International Airport, and the Dallas and Lancaster Independent   School Districts; and          WHEREAS, In 1999, the Texas Lone Star Chapter of the Korean   War Veterans Association erected the Texas Korean War Veterans   Memorial on the grounds of the State Capitol as a symbol of these   warriors' bravery, determination, and patriotism, and through his   contributions in the military, Lucious Williams truly exemplified   these high ideals; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby commend Lucious Williams for his service in the   U.S. Army during the Korean War and extend to him sincere best   wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for Mr. Williams as an expression of high regard by the   Texas House of Representatives.     Y.
