HR1259 - In memory of former state representative Fred Charles Head of Athens.

      H.R. No. 1259       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to   a close with the passing of former state representative Fred   Charles Head of Athens on April 26, 2025, at the age of 86; and          WHEREAS, Fred Head was born in Troup in Smith County on   February 22, 1939, the son of Lou Ella Wilkinson Head and Alvie   Charles Head; he earned a bachelor's degree in business   administration from Southern Methodist University as well as a law   degree from the SMU Dedman School of Law; from 1962 to 1963, he   served as president of the Texas Intercollegiate Student   Association, and he was selected to represent the state in a   national oratorical competition sponsored by the Junior Chambers of   Commerce in 1965; and          WHEREAS, The following year, Mr. Head won election to the   Texas House of Representatives at age 27; his 15-year tenure as a   lawmaker commenced with the 60th Legislature in 1967, and through   the years, he represented the constituents of House Districts 15   and 14; he served on numerous committees, including those focused   on penitentiaries, labor, and appropriations, and he chaired the   House Reapportionment and Higher Education Committees; in 1971, he   was a member of the "Dirty Thirty," a bipartisan coalition of   legislators that spoke out against political corruption; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Head enjoyed a long and successful career as an   attorney, and in 2013, he was honored by the State Bar of Texas for   50 years of service in the field of law; he was also active in real   estate investment and ranching; and          WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Head benefited from the   love and support of his wife, Marsha, with whom he shared a   rewarding marriage that spanned more than six decades; he took   great pride in his children, Cindy, Cathy, Mimi, Mike, and the late   Fred Charles "Bud" Head Jr., and over the years, he saw his   cherished family grow to include eight grandchildren, Katie, Clara,   Sloane, Felix, Chad, True, Regan, and Freddie, and two   great-grandchildren, Tristan and Catalina; following the untimely   passing of their son Bud in 1986, Mr. and Mrs. Head donated the   historic Texan Theater building to the City of Athens in his honor;   and          WHEREAS, Through his wide-ranging contributions, Fred Head   earned the respect and admiration of innumerable people, and he   leaves behind a legacy that will resonate for years to come; now,   therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Fred Charles Head   and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be   it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of   Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fred Head.     Bell of Kaufman     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
