HR1239 - In memory of former state representative Fred Charles Head of Athens, Texas.

      H.R. No. 1239       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Former state representative Fred Charles Head of   Athens, Texas, passed away on April 26, 2025, at the age of 86,   bringing a great loss to his family and friends; and          WHEREAS, The son of Lou Ella Wilkinson Head and Alvie Charles   Head, Fred Head was born in Troup in Smith County on February 22,   1939; he earned his bachelor's degree in business from Southern   Methodist University and went on to graduate from the SMU Dedman   School of Law; a rancher, real estate investor, and attorney, he was   honored in 2013 by the State Bar of Texas for his 50 years in the   legal profession; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Head was elected to the first of seven terms in   the Texas House of Representatives in 1966; during his tenure, he   served as chair of the Higher Education and Reapportionment   Committees, and he was a member of numerous other committees,   including appropriations, energy resources, and penitentiaries; in   the early 1970s, he was part of the anti-corruption "Dirty 30"   movement in the legislature, and in retaliation, his district was   redrawn to place him in the same district as the speaker of the   House; despite sustaining injuries from a major car accident in the   middle of his campaign, he won the election and returned to the   House, having defeated a sitting speaker for the first time in Texas   history; he was a delegate to the 1974 Texas Constitutional   Convention and a serious candidate for the speakership; and          WHEREAS, Devoted to his loved ones, Mr. Head shared a   fulfilling marriage with his wife, the former Marsha Langston; the   couple raised three daughters, Cindy, Cathy, and Mimi, and two   sons, Mike and Fred; Fred Charles "Bud" Head Jr. passed away in   1986, and in his honor, the family donated the historic Texan   Theater building to the City of Athens for use as a multipurpose   event venue; and          WHEREAS, A caring family man and a dedicated public servant,   Fred Head will be deeply missed, but the commitment and generosity   with which he lived his life will forever inspire all who had the   good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby pay tribute to the Honorable Fred Charles Head   and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his   wife, Marsha; to his daughters, Cindy, Cathy, and Mimi; to his son,   Mike; to his grandchildren, Katie, Clara, Sloane, Felix, Chad,   True, Regan, and Freddie; to his great-grandchildren, Tristan and   Catalina; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of   Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fred   Charles Head.     Bryant     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
