HR947 - Honoring Lee Corso for his 38-year career as an ESPN College GameDay host.

      H.R. No. 947       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Lee Corso, a legendary host on ESPN's College   GameDay who has captivated audiences with his showmanship and   astute knowledge of football during an illustrious career of nearly   four decades, will make his final broadcast at the start of the 2025   season; and          WHEREAS, A mainstay of the popular weekly college football   pregame show since it debuted in 1987, Mr. Corso is most famous for   his headgear picks; the tradition began on October 5, 1996, when he   accurately predicted that No. 3 Ohio State would defeat No. 4 Penn   State by ceremoniously donning a Brutus Buckeye mascot head; in   total, he has made 430 headgear picks, posting an impressive   overall record of 286-144; his final broadcast will take place on   August 30, three weeks after his 90th birthday; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Corso has entertained crowds on more than 70   college campuses; during prediction disagreements, he is known for   delivering his signature catchphrase of "Not so fast, my friend!"   while clutching a No. 2 pencil, and other iconic moments that will   endure include him dancing with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish's   leprechaun, riding a motorcycle with the Oregon Duck, debating game   picks with pop music star Katy Perry, and wrestling with actors Bill   Murray and Will Ferrell; additionally, he has dressed as such   figures as Ben Franklin and Elvis Presley; and          WHEREAS, Before his broadcasting career, Mr. Corso was a head   football coach at the college and professional levels, including 17   seasons at the helm for the University of Louisville, Indiana and   Northern Illinois Universities, and the Orlando Renegades of the   United States Football League; in the 1950s, he was a defensive back   at Florida State, where for two decades after his graduation, he   held the school record for career interceptions; and          WHEREAS, Among his accolades, Mr. Corso is a member of the   athletic Halls of Fame at Florida State, Louisville, and Indiana,   the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, and the Kentucky Athletic Hall of   Fame; in 2006, he entered the Florida State University Alumni   Association's Circle of Gold, and in 2010, he received the National   College Football Awards Association Contributions Award; and          WHEREAS, Lee Corso has demonstrated a remarkable talent for   expert analysis over the course of his exceptional broadcasting   career, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many   contributions to college football; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby honor Lee Corso for his 38-year career as an ESPN   College GameDay host and extend to him sincere best wishes for the   future; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for Mr. Corso as an expression of high regard by the Texas   House of Representatives.     Cain     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
