HR908 - Recognizing April 24, 2025, as Fayette County Day at the State Capitol.

      H.R. No. 908       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Proud citizens of Fayette County are gathering in   Austin on April 24, 2025, in celebration of Fayette County Day at   the State Capitol; and          WHEREAS, Situated in the Blackland Prairies region of South   Central Texas, the area that would become Fayette County was first   inhabited by prehistoric peoples, such as the Clovis, and later on   by Lipan Apache and Tonkawa Indians; the region was part of Stephen   F. Austin's first colony, with formal settlement beginning in 1822,   and from 1824 to 1828, ten members of the Old Three Hundred received   title to their land grants; many area residents figured prominently   in the Texas Revolution, with more than 50 men participating in the   battle of San Jacinto, among them Joel Walter Robison, one of the   captors of General Antonio López de Santa Anna; and          WHEREAS, On December 14, 1837, the Congress of the Republic   of Texas established Fayette County and named it for the Marquis de   Lafayette, a key supporter of American independence, and La Grange   was designated the county seat; in its early years, the county's   economy was driven by farms and plantations, with corn, tobacco,   wool, and cotton being important crops; though the Civil War and its   aftermath brought hardships for many, the economy began to recover   in the late 1860s, and the ensuing decades saw prolonged periods of   growth and prosperity, fueled in large part by an influx of German   and other European immigrants; and          WHEREAS, Today, Fayette County is home to more than 25,000   people, and its economy benefits from the manufacturing, retail,   and health care industries; notable communities include La Grange,   Fayetteville, Schulenburg, Round Top, Flatonia, Ammannsville,   Muldoon, Carmine, and Praha; residents and visitors alike enjoy   recreational opportunities afforded by Lake Fayette and the   Colorado River, and outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the region for   activities like fishing, kayaking, and mountain biking; the county   also boasts such attractions as antique fairs, festivals, and a   number of museums and historical sites, including many of the   state's famed painted churches; and          WHEREAS, The people of Fayette County take great pride in   their rich history as they work together to build an even brighter   future, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for their unique   contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby recognize April 24, 2025, as Fayette County Day   at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting   delegation.     Kitzman     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
