HR878 - In memory of Carl Wayne Warwick.

      H.R. No. 878       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort   those saddened by the passing of Carl Wayne Warwick of Houston on   April 5, 2025, at the age of 88; and          WHEREAS, Carl Warwick was born in Dallas on February 27,   1937, the son of Beulah and Jay Carl Warwick; he grew up with the   companionship of a brother, Tommy, and he graduated from Sunset   High School in 1955; he went on to attend Texas Christian University   on a baseball scholarship, earning All-Conference honors in 1956   and being selected an NCAA All-American the following year; his   stellar play attracted the attention of scouts, and he signed a pro   contract at the age of 20, forgoing his senior season at TCU; and          WHEREAS, After honing his skills in the minor leagues,   Mr. Warwick made his Major League Baseball debut with the Los   Angeles Dodgers in 1961 and was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals   later that year; following a season with the Houston Colt .45s, he   returned to the Cardinals and is best known for his pivotal   performance in the team's win over the New York Yankees in the 1964   World Series; coming off the bench as a pinch hitter, he recorded a   total of three hits, tying a record that still stands today, and his   clutch single in Game 4 led to a grand slam that enabled St. Louis   to even the series; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Warwick also played for the Baltimore Orioles   and the Chicago Cubs before retiring in 1966; he then founded the   real estate investment company Carl Warwick and Associates; he   remained involved in baseball, serving as chairman of the Major   League Baseball Players Alumni Association and helping start the   Rotary Smith Award, which honors college baseball's player of the   year; moreover, he was a member of the Harris County-Houston Sports   Authority for 12 years; he was inducted into the TCU Lettermen's   Association Hall Of Fame in 1989 and the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame   in 2003; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Warwick shared 67 years of marriage with his   beloved wife, Nancy Hensler Warwick, and he took great pride in   their daughters, Karla and Julie; with the passing years, he had the   pleasure of seeing the family grow to include 6 grandchildren,   Daniel, David, Jay, Gregory, Jennifer, and Vanessa, and 10   great-grandchildren, Luke, Ellie, Aubrey, Scottie, Bennett,   Charlotte, Caleb, Morgan, Cade, and Sloane; he was a longtime   member of Champion Forest Baptist Church, and through the years, he   supported a number of charities; in his free time, he enjoyed   playing golf, fishing, and telling stories of his time in baseball;   and          WHEREAS, Carl Warwick distinguished himself as a gifted   athlete, an accomplished entrepreneur, and a devoted family man,   and his achievements will be admired for many years to come; now,   therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Carl Wayne Warwick   and extend sincere condolences to his family and friends; and, be it   further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of   Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Carl   Warwick.     Harless     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
