HR825 - In memory of Roy Leonard Grant Sr. of Houston.

      H.R. No. 825       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and   meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and friends   of Roy Leonard Grant Sr. of Houston, who passed away on March 30,   2025, at the age of 85; and          WHEREAS, Born in Chester on September 20, 1939, to Ezell   Grant and Doris Wells, Roy Grant grew up with the companionship of   two sisters, Gloria and Nelvia; he graduated from Chester High   School, and he went on to enlist in the U.S. Army in 1969 and to   complete a tour of duty in Germany; after concluding his military   service, he worked as a pipefitter at the Goodyear Chemical plant   for 35 years before retiring; and          WHEREAS, In 1963, Mr. Grant exchanged vows with the love of   his life, Bobbie Jean Grant, and the couple shared a rewarding   marriage that spanned 54 years until her passing in 2017; Mr. Grant   took great pride in his daughters, Cynthia, Barbara, and Bridgette,   and his sons, Roy and Ira; with the passing years, he saw his   treasured family grow to include 23 grandchildren and 36   great-grandchildren; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Grant was involved in numerous organizations in   Northeast Houston; his volunteer efforts included service as a   member of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform   Now, as the commissioner of the East Houston Athletic Club, as   president of Smokey Jasper Park, and as a board member for the East   Houston Civic Club and the Lakewood Park Advisory Committee; his   interest in civic affairs was also reflected in his work with State   Representative Senfronia Thompson, U.S. Representative Sheila   Jackson Lee, and other elected officials; and          WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Roy Grant will   forever remember his kindness, his leadership, and his service to   his community, and his legacy will continue to be appreciated for   many years to come; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roy Leonard Grant   Sr. and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to   his daughters, Cynthia Grant and her husband, Clifford, Barbara   Grant, and Bridgette Grant and her husband, Johnny; to his sons, Roy   Leonard Grant Jr. and his wife, Placiel, and Ira Grant and his wife,   Shanquetta; to his stepson, Willie Meeks, and his wife, Michelle;   to his sister, Nelvia Jean Reese; to his grandchildren and   great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and many friends;   and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of   Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy Grant.     Dutton     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
