  89R21197 BK-D     By: Bhojani H.R. No. 818       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Across the globe, The Church of Jesus Christ of   Latter-day Saints numbers more than 17 million members, who devote   themselves to living by the principles of their faith and providing   meaningful service to those in need; and          WHEREAS, Today, the Church has approximately 385,000 members   and over 750 congregations in Texas; the state is also home to five   temples, which serve as sacred spaces where holy ordinances, such   as weddings, are performed; and          WHEREAS, Latter-day Saints in Texas put their faith into   action by engaging in charitable efforts in their communities; in   2024, the Church provided nearly 900,000 pounds of shelf-stable   foods, 240,000 pounds of frozen meat, and 82,000 gallons of fresh   milk to food banks and other charities across the state; and          WHEREAS, In addition, the Church sponsors JustServe, an   online platform that connects volunteers with service   opportunities; in 2024, more than 11,000 of these opportunities   were available in Texas, which has over 50,000 registered users;   the Church also sponsors FamilySearch, a free platform where   individuals can research their genealogy and locate family members;   and          WHEREAS, Texans who belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of   Latter-day Saints have strengthened and uplifted their communities   through their dedication to peace, interfaith friendship, and   selfless service, and it is indeed fitting to recognize all that   they have accomplished through their collective efforts; now,   therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby recognize The Church of Jesus Christ of   Latter-day Saints for its contributions to the State of Texas and   extend sincere appreciation to Latter-day Saints residing in the   Lone Star State for their many good works.
