      H.R. No. 699       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Nucor Corporation is celebrating the 50th   anniversary of its Nucor Steel--Texas plant in Jewett in 2025; and          WHEREAS, Established in 1975, the Jewett facility was one of   the first electric arc furnace plants in the United States; the   electric arc process for melting and recycling scrap steel is more   cost-effective than integrated iron and steel production and blast   furnaces, and it generates significantly less pollution; and          WHEREAS, A leader in the steel industry, Nucor Corporation   helped drive the shift from refining to recycling as the primary   method of steel production; today, it is North America's largest   steel and steel products manufacturer and its largest recycler,   processing approximately 20 million tons of scrap metal last year;   and          WHEREAS, Nucor recently expanded into new markets in Texas   with the acquisition and opening of facilities in Lewisville and   Houston; on an annual basis, its six Texas divisions have a   recycling capacity of 1.5 million tons of steel and a production   capacity of nearly 1.7 million tons; the company also employs   approximately 2,300 Texans at the plants; and          WHEREAS, Since 2010, the Nucor divisions in Jewett, Terrell,   and Grapeland have been annually awarded Voluntary Protection   Program Star status from the Occupational Safety and Health   Administration; moreover, Nucor Steel--Texas earned a Texas   Environmental Excellence Award for its efforts in resource   conservation, waste reduction, and pollution prevention; and          WHEREAS, Nucor Steel--Texas has contributed significantly to   the prosperity of Jewett over the past five decades, and it is   indeed fitting to recognize this significant milestone in the   company's history; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby congratulate Nucor Corporation on the 50th   anniversary of its Nucor Steel--Texas plant in Jewett and extend to   all those associated with the company sincere best wishes for   continued success; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for Nucor as an expression of high regard by the Texas   House of Representatives.     Orr     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
