HR648 - Congratulating the Duncanville High School boys' basketball team on winning the 2025 UIL 6A Division 1 state championship.

      H.R. No. 648       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, The Duncanville High School boys' basketball team   once again proved itself one of the finest in the Lone Star State by   winning the 2025 University Interscholastic League 6A Division 1   state championship; and          WHEREAS, The Panthers began their journey to the title by   capturing the District 11-6A championship; they continued to excel   in the playoffs, dispatching Temple, Wylie, Spring Grand Oaks, and   Rockwall High Schools to reach the state semifinals for the 10th   time; overcoming an early deficit, the team upset nationally ranked   Allen High 77-74 to punch its ticket to the state final; and          WHEREAS, On March 8, at the Alamodome in San Antonio,   Duncanville took the court against Houston Bellaire High in what   proved to be a thrilling battle for the crown; protecting a   two-point lead entering the fourth quarter, the Panthers   demonstrated remarkable poise down the stretch and held their   advantage into the final moments of the contest; as the game clock   expired, Bellaire's three-point attempt fell short, clinching a   dramatic 54-52 triumph for Duncanville; the Panthers cut down the   nets in celebration of the program's sixth state title and ended the   season with a stellar record of 27 wins and just 7 losses; and          WHEREAS, Duncanville was led by Kayden Edwards, the   championship game Most Valuable Player who was joined by Cam Smith   on the All-Tournament Team; the Panthers also received valuable   contributions throughout the year from the other members of the   roster: Beckham Black, Xavion Lawson, Christopher Hunt Jr., Jirehn   Mitchell, Gary Jones, Ethan McKinney, Kaden Harris, Ryan Hood,   Chris Gooden Jr., Joseph Brooks, Grayson Shaw, CJ Smith, and   Leandre Hill; these determined student-athletes were ably guided by   head coach David Peavy and assistant coaches Chris Thomas, Jay   Cosme, Darrin Session, and Brent Jones; they received additional   support from managers Jackson Parks, Imarion Mallord, Zoe Kirkland,   Mya Talley, and Kennidy Manning, trainers Alec Hawkins, Jessica   Uselding, Paola Cabrera, Kailyn Nembhard, and Jaelyn Coleman, and   statistician Rebecca Cady; and          WHEREAS, Through their skill, hard work, and dedication, the   Duncanville Panthers have burnished their community's reputation   as the "City of Champions," and this achievement will be fondly   remembered for many years to come; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby congratulate the Duncanville High School boys'   basketball team on winning the 2025 UIL 6A Division 1 state   championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere   best wishes for continued success; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas   House of Representatives.     Y.
