HR644 - Recognizing March 27, 2025, as Asherton Day at the State Capitol.

      H.R. No. 644       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Proud residents of Asherton are gathering in Austin   on March 27, 2025, to celebrate Asherton Day at the State Capitol;   and          WHEREAS, Located in central Dimmit County, the city of   Asherton has a proud history dating back to its founding in the   early 20th century; it was established by rancher and entrepreneur   Asher Richardson, who acquired the site in 1902 and subsequently   formed Asherton Land and Irrigation Company to develop the land;   and          WHEREAS, The city grew rapidly in the ensuing years, with the   establishment of critical infrastructure such as telephone and   railroad companies in 1905, a post office in 1909, and the Asherton   and Gulf Railway in 1910, making it a major shipping point for local   agriculture; by 1915, the thriving community was home to 1,000   residents and numerous businesses, including a bank, hotels,   blacksmith shops, and general stores, and it was officially   incorporated in 1925; moreover, the town gained national   recognition in the late 1920s as one of the largest shipping points   in the country for Bermuda onions, and by 1929, its population had   reached 2,000; and          WHEREAS, Though Asherton faced economic hardships during the   Great Depression and the subsequent decades, it remained a   resilient and close-knit community as its residents continued to   contribute to the agricultural and economic development of the   region; today, the city stands as a testament to the enduring spirit   of its people, who have worked tirelessly to preserve its heritage   and support its growth; and          WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to build   an even brighter future, the citizens of Asherton are justifiably   proud of their community, and it is indeed fitting to honor their   contributions to the story of the Lone Star State; now, therefore,   be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby recognize March 27, 2025, as Asherton Day at the   State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best   wishes for a meaningful and memorable stay in Austin.     McLaughlin     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
