      H.R. No. 390       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Members of the Houston Lawyers Association are   gathering at the State Capitol in Austin on March 19, 2025; and          WHEREAS, An affiliate chapter of the National Bar   Association, the Houston Lawyers Association was established in   1955 to address the needs of Black lawyers and the Black community   in general after one of the association's founders,   Robert W. Hainsworth, challenged the Houston Bar Association's   policy to refuse admission for African Americans; and          WHEREAS, Today, HLA promotes education and equal justice   under the law through advocacy, mentoring, and coalition building;   to that end, the organization provides its members with a forum to   discuss the various issues that affect their communities, and it   also conducts continuing legal training seminars, evaluates   judicial candidates, distributes relevant information to foster   professional growth and development, and offers opportunities for   networking; and          WHEREAS, For seven decades, HLA has served as a stalwart   voice for the Black community while helping to combat injustice,   and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to honor the   association and its members; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby recognize March 19, 2025, as Houston Lawyers   Association Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to   the visiting delegation; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for the Houston Lawyers Association as an expression of   high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.     Reynolds     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
