      H.R. No. 301       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, For over a century, the United Way of the Concho   Valley has provided outstanding service to area citizens; and          WHEREAS, The organization traces its origins to 1911, when   the San Angelo Circle of the International Order of King's   Daughters and Sons was established to assist area families in need;   in 1925, the group joined with other local organizations to better   serve the community, leading to the formation of a community chest;   during World War II, what was then known as United Charities became   the United War Chest; and          WHEREAS, Following the war, the Tom Green County Community   Council was created to address unmet social needs; the organization   eventually rebranded as the United Way of Tom Green County in 1974;   wanting to make a greater impact, the group expanded its support to   more communities in 1991 and took the name the United Way of the   Concho Valley; and          WHEREAS, Today, UWCV works to address such vital issues as   education, financial stability, and health across the Concho   Valley's 14 counties; its primary goals include helping children   meet essential academic benchmarks, eliminating child abuse and   domestic violence, providing access to mental health and substance   abuse services, preventing homelessness, and expanding outreach   efforts; and          WHEREAS, UWCV benefits from a number of strategic   partnerships, having most recently incorporated Dolly Parton's   Imagination Library into its United We Read program; the initiative   involves having hundreds of area youth join together on a   designated day to read a book, emphasizing the importance of early   literacy; and          WHEREAS, The United Way of the Concho Valley has   distinguished itself as a force for good in the communities it   serves, and the organization is indeed deserving of recognition for   its dedicated efforts; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby honor the United Way of the Concho Valley for its   contributions and extend to all those affiliated with the   organization sincere best wishes for continued success with their   important work; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the   Texas House of Representatives.     Darby     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
