      H.R. No. 294       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Over the course of 150 years, Prairie View A&M   University has established itself as an outstanding educational   resource and a force for social progress in the Lone Star State; and          WHEREAS, Founded under the Morrill Land Grant College Act and   the Texas Constitution in 1876, Prairie View A&M University is one   of the state's oldest public institutions of higher learning; the   school was originally opened to provide for the education of   African Americans, and it is today among the largest historically   Black colleges and universities in the nation; and          WHEREAS, Graduates of Prairie View A&M University have   achieved prominence in such fields as education, business,   medicine, engineering, science, law, and the military; the   institution currently offers more than 70 degree programs, and it   provides opportunities for students to broaden their intellectual   horizons and develop valuable skills by participating in study   abroad programs, service learning projects, cultural training   initiatives, and other rewarding experiences; and          WHEREAS, Prairie View A&M posted an enrollment of nearly   9,900 students during the fall 2024 semester, surpassing its   previous record; the school currently ranks among the top   universities for graduating African Americans with degrees in   architecture, engineering, marketing, and agriculture, as well as   one of the best value institutions in the State of Texas; in   addition, it is among just 11 HBCUs to have attained an R2   designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of   Higher Education for high research activity; and          WHEREAS, Prairie View A&M University has excelled in its   mission to provide students with a strong foundation on which to   build successful careers and fulfilling lives, and it is a   privilege to join in recognizing the institution on this special   milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Prairie   View A&M University and extend to the school's administrators,   faculty, staff, students, and alumni sincere best wishes for the   future; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for the university as an expression of high regard by the   Texas House of Representatives.     Thompson     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
