HR274 - Honoring the Divine Nine fraternities and sororities during Black History Month.

      H.R. No. 274       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Black History Month is taking place in February   2025, providing a fitting opportunity to recognize the Divine Nine   fraternities and sororities; and          WHEREAS, The group consists of the nine historically African   American fraternities and sororities that make up the National   Pan-Hellenic Council, which includes Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,   Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Omega Psi   Phi Fraternity, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma   Fraternity, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and   Iota Phi Theta Fraternity; and          WHEREAS, The Divine Nine boast a rich history of academic   excellence and community service and they have played an   instrumental role in shaping generations of leaders; the   organizations support their members in a wide range of academic,   professional, and civic endeavors, and over the years, they have   helped to strengthen communities and address societal challenges   both locally and globally; and          WHEREAS, Many members of the fraternities and sororities have   excelled in the fields of politics, education, arts, and   entertainment, and they have used their platforms to advocate for   social justice and equality; moreover, the Divine Nine have   collectively raised millions of dollars for educational   scholarships and initiatives that help underserved communities;   and          WHEREAS, The Divine Nine have worked to foster brotherhoods   and sisterhoods of concerned citizens who devote themselves to the   greater good, and their members may indeed reflect with pride on   their noteworthy tradition of activism and achievement; now,   therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby honor the Divine Nine fraternities and   sororities on the occasion of Black History Month and extend to all   those affiliated with the organizations sincere best wishes for the   future; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for the Divine Nine as an expression of high regard by the   Texas House of Representatives.     Jones of Harris     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
