HR228 - Congratulating Jalen Hurts on leading the Philadelphia Eagles to the 2025 Super Bowl championship.

      H.R. No. 228       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Houston native Jalen Hurts took his team to the   pinnacle of professional football success when he guided the   Philadelphia Eagles to victory in the 2025 Super Bowl; and          WHEREAS, Closing out an unforgettable season in which the   team compiled 14 regular season and 3 NFC playoff wins, the Eagles   took the field on February 9 for a Super Bowl showdown with the   two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of the   2023 title game; on the Eagles' second possession, Mr. Hurts   completed a 28-yard pass down the sideline to advance to the 1-yard   line, and he punched the ball in on the following play to give   Philadelphia an early 7-0 lead; and          WHEREAS, That was the beginning of a dazzling demonstration   of offensive firepower as the Eagles took charge of the game;   highlights included Mr. Hurts's touchdown pass to A. J. Brown in   the second quarter and a thrilling 46-yard toss to DeVonta Smith in   the third quarter that effectively put the game out of reach; when   the final seconds ticked off the clock, the Philly faithful   celebrated a 40-22 triumph, and Mr. Hurts was named Most Valuable   Player for his outstanding performance; in addition to passing for   221 yards and two scores, he set a Super Bowl record for   quarterbacks with 72 yards rushing, and his 77.3 percent completion   percentage ranks fourth all-time in the championship finale; and          WHEREAS, Mr. Hurts first gained acclaim at Channelview High   School, where he was coached by his father, Averion Hurts; he   emerged as one of the most sought-after quarterback recruits in the   nation and began his collegiate career at The University of   Alabama, earning Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year,   All-SEC, and All-American honors and helping the team claim the   2017 national championship; he transferred to the University of   Oklahoma for his senior year in 2019 and became a Heisman Trophy   finalist after guiding the Sooners to the Big 12 title and an   appearance in the College Football Playoffs; and          WHEREAS, Philadelphia selected Mr. Hurts in the second round   of the 2020 NFL Draft; three years later, he led the Eagles to the   2023 Super Bowl, where he ran for three touchdowns and threw for   another in a narrow loss to the Chiefs; over the course of five   professional seasons, he has been chosen to the Pro Bowl twice,   passed for 14,667 yards and 85 touchdowns, and rushed for 3,133   yards and 55 touchdowns; and          WHEREAS, With his exceptional showing on football's biggest   stage, Jalen Hurts has earned a special place among the gridiron   stars who have hailed from the Lone Star State, and he may take   justifiable pride in a job well done; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby congratulate Jalen Hurts on leading the   Philadelphia Eagles to the 2025 Super Bowl championship and extend   to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further          RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be   prepared for Mr. Hurts as an expression of high regard by the Texas   House of Representatives.     Hernandez     ______________________________   Speaker of the House                 I certify that H.R.
