HR122 - Recognizing January 29, 2025, as Brownsville Day at the State Capitol.

      H.R. No. 122       R E S O L U T I O N          WHEREAS, Proud residents of the City of Brownsville are   gathering in Austin on January 29, 2025, to celebrate Brownsville   Day at the State Capitol; and          WHEREAS, The southernmost city in Texas, Brownsville has   played an important role in the state's storied history; during the   Mexican-American War, a military fort was constructed at the site,   and soon after, it was named Fort Brown in honor of Major Jacob   Brown, who died during an attack on the stronghold; the area became   part of the State of Texas with the signing of the Treaty of   Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, and it was officially incorporated as   Brownsville in 1853; the city also served as a hub for trade with   Mexico during the Civil War, and in the following decades, its   economy benefited from the cattle and transportation industries;   and          WHEREAS, Today, Brownsville is the largest city in the   Rio Grande Valley, spanning nearly 150 square miles and boasting a   population of approximately 190,000; the city serves as the county   seat of Cameron County, and it has built a reputation as a leader in   technology, innovation, new space, broadband infrastructure, and   cross-border trade; the city's broadband initiative with Omni-Lit   Fiber has brought high-speed Internet connectivity to underserved   areas, bolstering economic and educational opportunities; in   addition, its groundbreaking partnership with SpaceX has   positioned Brownsville as a global hub for commercial space   exploration; the city has also demonstrated a steadfast commitment   to sustainable growth, economic development, and enhancing the   quality of life for its residents; and          WHEREAS, Brownsville has fostered a vibrant culture that   reflects the enduring partnership between the United States and   Mexico; the city hosts a number of festivals and events to celebrate   its Mexican American heritage and traditions, and it works to   strengthen the bonds of unity, friendship, and shared purpose   between residents on both sides of the Rio Grande; and          WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to build   an even brighter future, the citizens of Brownsville are   justifiably proud of their community, and it is indeed fitting to   honor their contributions to the progress and prosperity of the   Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it          RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas   Legislature hereby recognize January 29, 2025, as Brownsville Day   at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting   delegation, including Mayor John Cowen, Jr. and City Commissioners   Tino Villarreal, Jr., Dr. Rose M. Z. Gowen, Bryan L. Martinez,   Linda C.
