MERCHANT CATEGORY CODE LIMITATIONS WITH 1 RESPECT TO FIREARM MERCHANTS. 2 Section 127 of the Truth in Lending Act (15 U.S.C. 3 1637) is amended by inserting after subsection (p) the fol- 4 lowing: 5 ‘‘(q) MERCHANT CATEGORY CODE LIMITATIONS 6 WITH RESPECT TO FIREARM MERCHANTS.— 7 ‘‘(1) IN GENERAL.—A covered entity may not 8 use a merchant category code that separately identi- 9 fies firearms merchants or ammunition merchants. 10 ‘‘(2) COVERED ENTITY DEFINED.—For the pur- 11 poses of this subsection, the term ‘covered entity’ 12 means any entity— 13 ‘‘(A) involved in facilitating or processing a 14 credit card transaction, including a bank, an 15 acquirer, payment card network, or payment 16 card issuer; or 17 ‘‘(B) otherwise participates in the author- 18 izing, clearing, or settling of a credit card 19 transaction.’’. 20 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:17 May 11, 2023 Jkt 039200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H3021.IH H3021 pbinns on DSKJLVW7X2PROD with $$_JOB
