A BILL
To amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to authorize
additional grant activities for Hispanic-serving institutions.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Accessing Higher Edu-
4
cation Opportunities Act’’.
5
SEC. 2. AUTHORIZED GRANT ACTIVITIES.

Subsection (b) of section 503 of the Higher Edu-
7
cation Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1101b(b)) is amended—

(1) by redesignating paragraphs (7) through
1
(16) as paragraphs (9) through (18), respectively;
2
and
3
(2) by inserting after paragraph (6) the fol-
4
lowing:

‘‘(7) Student support programs (which may in-
6
clude counseling, mentoring, and other support serv-
7
ices) designed to facilitate the successful advance-
8
ment of students from four-year institutions to
9
postbaccalaureate doctoral degree granting programs
10
that prepare students for health care occupations as
11
such occupations are described in the most recent
12
edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook pub-
13
lished by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

‘‘(8) Developing or expanding access to dual or
15
concurrent enrollment programs and early college
16
high school programs.’’.

SEC. 3. FUNDING.
18
(a) AUTHORIZATIONS OF APPROPRIATIONS.—There
19
are authorized to be appropriated to carry out part A of
20
title V of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C.
21
1101 et seq.), as amended by this Act, $107,795,000 for
22
the first fiscal year starting after the date of the enact-
23
ment of this Act.

(b) ADDITIONAL EXTENSIONS NOT PERMITTED.—

Section 422 of the General Education Provisions Act (20
2
U.S.C. 1226a) shall not apply to further extend the dura-
3
tion of the authority under subsection (a).
