To amend title 11, United States Code, to prohibit private
employers to deny employment involving debtors in bank-
ruptcy.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Ending Bankruptcy
4
Discrimination Act of 2020’’.

SEC. 2. PROTECTION AGAINST DISCRIMINATORY TREAT-
6
MENT.
7
Section 525(b) of title 11, United States Code, is
8
amended by inserting ‘‘deny employment to,’’ after
9
‘‘may’’.

SEC. 3. EFFECTIVE DATE; APPLICATION OF AMENDMENT.

(a) EFFECTIVE DATE.—Except as provided in sub-
2
section (b), this Act and the amendment made by this Act
3
shall take effect on the date of the enactment of this Act.
4
(b) APPLICATION OF AMENDMENT.—The amendment
5
made by this Act shall not apply with respect to conduct
6
that occurs before the date of the enactment of this Act.
