A BILL
To improve the ability of separating or retiring members
of the Armed Forces to seek services provided by accred-
ited veterans service officers, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Know Your Vets Act
4
of 2020’’.

SEC. 2. TRANSMITTAL TO ACCREDITED VETERANS SERVICE

OFFICERS OF CERTAIN INFORMATION ON
2
MEMBERS RETIRING OR SEPARATING FROM
3
THE ARMED FORCES.

(a) TRANSMITTAL.—The Secretary of Defense shall
5
ensure that a member of the Armed Forces who is sepa-
6
rating or retiring from the Armed Forces may elect to
7
have the Department of Defense transmit the name and
8
contact information of the member to all appropriate ac-
9
credited veterans service officers based on the post-separa-
10
tion mailing address provided to the Department by the
11
member.

(b) ACCREDITED VETERANS SERVICE OFFICER DE-
13
FINED.—In this section, the term ‘‘accredited veterans
14
service officer’’ means a person who has been recognized
15
by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs under section 5902
16
of title 38, United States Code, for the purposes of prepa-
17
ration, presentation, and prosecution of claims under laws
18
administered by the Secretary.
