Mr. CORNYN (for himself and Ms. DUCKWORTH) introduced the following bill;

A BILL
To provide for the continuation of paid parental leave for
members of the Armed Services in the event of the
death of the child.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Elaine M. Checketts
4
Military Families Act of 2020’’.

SEC. 2. CONTINUATION OF PAID PARENTAL LEAVE UPON
6
DEATH OF CHILD.

Not later than 180 days after the date of the enact-
8
ment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall amend
9
the regulations prescribed pursuant to subsections (i) and

(j) of section 701 of title 10, United States Code, to pro-

vide that the eligibility of primary and secondary care-
2
givers for paid parental leave that has already been ap-
3
proved shall not terminate upon the death of the child for
4
whom such leave is taken.
