A BILL
To amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act
of 1965 to improve diversity in accelerated student learn-
ing programs.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Diversity Advance-
4
ments in Accelerated Programs Act’’.
5
SEC. 2. DIVERSITY IN ACCELERATED STUDENT LEARNING
6
PROGRAMS.

(a) STATE ACTIVITIES.—Section 4104(b)(3)(A) of
8
the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20
9
U.S.C. 7114(b)(3)(A)) is amended—

(1) by striking ‘‘or’’ at the end of clause (i);

and
2
(2) by adding at the end the following:

‘‘(iii) establishing an equity office to
4
provide recommendations and develop pro-
5
grams to improve diversity in such acceler-
6
ated learning programs, and address other
7
inequalities with respect to raising student
8
academic achievement; or
9
‘‘(iv) carrying out universal screening
10
to determine eligibility for such accelerated
11
learning programs;’’.

(b) LOCAL ACTIVITIES.—Section 4107(a)(3)(D) of
13
the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20
14
U.S.C. 7117(a)(3)(D)) is amended—
15
(1) in clause (i), by striking ‘‘or’’; and
16
(2) by adding at the end the following:
17
‘‘(iii) establishing an equity office to
18
provide recommendations and develop pro-
19
grams to improve diversity in such acceler-
20
ated learning programs, and address other
21
inequalities with respect to raising student

academic achievement; or
