IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Mr. CICILLINE submitted the following resolution; which was referred to the
Committee on Rules
RESOLUTION
Amending the Rules of the House of Representatives to
establish a Permanent Select Committee on Aging.
Resolved, That rule X of the Rules of the House of

Representatives is amended by adding at the end the fol-
2
lowing new clause:

‘‘Permanent Select Committee on Aging
4
‘‘12. There is established a Permanent Select Com-
5
mittee on Aging which shall not have legislative jurisdic-
6
tion but which shall have jurisdiction—
7
‘‘(1) to conduct a continuing comprehensive
8
study and review of the problems of the older Amer-
9
ican, including but not limited to income mainte-
10

nance, poverty, housing, health (including medical

research), welfare, employment, education, recre-
2
ation, and long-term care;
3
‘‘(2) to study the use of all practicable means
4
and methods of encouraging the development of pub-
5
lic and private programs and policies which will as-
6
sist the older American in taking a full part in na-
7
tional life and which will encourage the utilization of
8
the knowledge, skills, special aptitudes, and abilities
9
of older Americans to contribute to a better quality
10
of life for all Americans;
11
‘‘(3) to develop policies that would encourage
12
the coordination of both governmental and private
13
programs designed to deal with problems of aging;
14
and
15
‘‘(4) to review any recommendations made by
16
the President or by the White House Conference on
17
aging relation to programs or policies affecting older
18
Americans.’’.
