Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Safe Routes to All 4 Schools Act’’. 5 SEC. 2. SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM. 6 (a) SENSE OF CONGRESS.—It is the sense of Con- 7 gress that— 8 (1) the safe routes to school program under sec- 9 tion 1404 of SAFETEA–LU (23 U.S.C. 402 note; 10 VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:19 Jan 15, 2020 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00001 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\S3183.IS S3183 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS 2 •S 3183 IS Public Law 109–59) (referred to in this subsection 1 as the ‘‘program’’) should be expanded to include 2 high school students as well as primary and middle 3 school students; 4 (2) the program helps ensure the safety of chil- 5 dren; and 6 (3) Congress should continue to provide funding 7 for this important program. 8 (b) SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL.—Section 1404 of 9 SAFETEA–LU (23 U.S.C. 402 note; Public Law 109– 10 59) is amended— 11 (1) in subsection (a), by striking ‘‘primary and 12 middle’’ and inserting ‘‘primary, middle, and high’’; 13 and 14 (2) in subsection (k)(2)— 15 (A) in the heading, by striking ‘‘PRIMARY 16 AND MIDDLE’’ and inserting ‘‘PRIMARY, MID- 17 DLE, AND HIGH’’; 18 (B) by striking ‘‘primary and middle’’ and 19 inserting ‘‘primary, middle, and high’’; and 20 (C) by striking ‘‘eighth grade’’ and insert- 21 ing ‘‘12th grade’’. 22 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:19 Jan 15, 2020 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\S3183.IS S3183 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS
