What This Bill Does
This bill changes the Small Business Act to add new duties for small business development centers and women's business centers. These centers must now help people who graduated from career and technical education programs (sometimes called vocational training) either find jobs or start their own small businesses.
##
Who It Affects
- Small business development centers (government-funded organizations that provide free help to small business owners)
- Women's business centers (organizations that specifically help women start and grow businesses)
- Graduates of career and technical education programs
- Small business owners looking to hire workers
##
Key Provisions
- Small business development centers must assist small businesses in hiring graduates from career and technical education programs or programs of study (Sec. 2(b))
- Small business development centers must assist graduates of career and technical education programs or programs of study in starting up a small business concern (Sec. 2(b))
- Women's business centers must provide assistance for small business concerns to hire graduates from career and technical education programs or programs of study (Sec. 2(c))
- Women's business centers must provide assistance for graduates of career and technical education programs or programs of study to start up a small business concern (Sec. 2(c))
- The bill defines "career and technical education" using the definition from the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 (Sec. 2(a))
##
What Changes
If this becomes law, small business development centers and women's business centers will have new requirements to help career and technical education graduates find jobs with small businesses or start their own businesses. Previously, these centers did not have these specific duties listed in the Small Business Act.
##
Important Definitions
- Career and technical education: As defined in section 3 of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006
