PROHIBITION ON COLLECTING TIME-BARRED DEBT. 1 (a) IN GENERAL.—The Fair Debt Collection Prac- 2 tices Act (15 U.S.C. 1692 et seq.) is amended by inserting 3 after section 811 the following: 4 ‘‘§ 811A. Prohibition on collecting time-barred debt 5 ‘‘A debt collector may not collect, or attempt to col- 6 lect, any debt of a consumer with respect to which the 7 statute of limitations has expired.’’. 8 (b) CLERICAL AMENDMENT.—The table of contents 9 for the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is amended by 10 inserting after the item relating to section 811 the fol- 11 lowing: 12 ‘‘811A.
