SHORT TITLE. 1 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘G.I. and Veterans Edu- 2 cation Empowerment Act’’ or the ‘‘GIVE Act’’. 3 SEC. 2. INFORMATION PROVIDED BY DEPARTMENT OF VET- 4 ERANS AFFAIRS ABOUT POSTSECONDARY 5 EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS. 6 (a) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED.— 7 Subsection (c) of section 3698 of title 38, United States 8 Code, is amended— 9 (1) in paragraph (1)(C)— 10 (A) in clause (xi), by striking ‘‘and’’ at the 11 end; 12 (B) in clause (xii), by striking the period 13 and inserting a semicolon; and 14 (C) by adding at the end the following new 15 clauses: 16 ‘‘(xiii) whether the institution is listed on 17 the College Navigator website as affiliated with 18 a religion and, if so, which religious denomina- 19 tion; 20 ‘‘(xiv) whether the Secretary of Education 21 or other head of a department or agency of the 22 Federal Government has determined that the 23 institution is a minority serving institution and, 24 if so, which one or more types of minority serv- 25 ing institutions; and 26 VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:09 Feb 27, 2020 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H4852.RFS H4852 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS 3 HR 4852 RFS ‘‘(xv) whether the institution is gender spe- 1 cific.’’; and 2 (2) in paragraph (2), by adding at the end the 3 following new sentence: ‘‘To the extent practicable, 4 the Secretary shall ensure that such information is 5 provided in a searchable format.’’. 6 (b) DEFINITION.—Subsection (f) of such section is 7 amended by adding at the end the following new para- 8 graphs: 9 ‘‘(3) The term ‘College Navigator website’ has 10 the meaning given that term in section 132 of the 11 Higher Education Act (20 U.S.C. 1015a). 12 ‘‘(4) The term ‘minority serving institution’ 13 means any of the following: 14 ‘‘(A) A part B institution, as such term is 15 defined in section 322(2) of the Higher Edu- 16 cation Act (20 U.S.C. 1061(2)). 17 ‘‘(B) A Hispanic-serving institution, as 18 such term is defined in section 502(a)(5) of 19 such Act (20 U.S.C. 1101a(5)). 20 ‘‘(C) A Tribal College or University, as 21 such term is defined in section 316(b)(3) of 22 such Act (20 U.S.C. 1059c(b)(3)). 23 VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:09 Feb 27, 2020 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H4852.RFS H4852 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS 4 HR 4852 RFS ‘‘(D) A predominantly Black institution, as 1 such term is defined in section 318(b)(6) of 2 such Act (20 U.S.C. 1059e(b)(6)). 3 ‘‘(E) A Native American-serving, nontribal 4 institution, as such term is defined in section 5 319(b)(2) of such Act (20 U.S.C. 1059f(b)(6)). 6 ‘‘(F) An Alaska Native-serving institution 7 or Native Hawaiian-serving institution, as such 8 terms are defined in section 317(b) of such Act 9 (20 U.S.C. 1059d(b)). 10 ‘‘(G) An Asian American and Native 11 American Pacific Islander-serving institution, as 12 such term is defined in section 320(b) of such 13 Act (20 U.S.C. 1059g(b)).’’. 14 (c) APPLICATION.—The amendments made by this 15 section shall apply with respect to the information pro- 16 vided under section 3698 of title 38, United States Code, 17 beginning on the date that is 2 years after the date of 18 the enactment of this Act. 19 Passed the House of Representatives February 26, 2020.
