SON LEE) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Com-
mittee on Education and Labor
A BILL
To amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to require
the Secretary of Education to translate the FAFSA into
foreign languages, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘FAFSA Translation
4
Act’’.

SEC. 2. TRANSLATION OF FAFSA INTO FOREIGN LAN-

GUAGES.

Section 483(a) of the Higher Education Act of 1965
3
(20 U.S.C. 1090(a)) is amended by adding at the end the
4
following:
5
‘‘(13)
TRANSLATION
INTO
FOREIGN
LAN-
6
GUAGES.—The Secretary shall—
7
‘‘(A) translate the forms developed under
8
this subsection into not fewer than 11 foreign
9
languages, to be determined by the Secretary;
10
and
11
‘‘(B) make the translated forms available
12
to applicants in paper and electronic formats.’’.

SEC. 3. EFFECTIVE DATE.
14
The amendment made by section 2 shall take effect
15
on the date that is five years after the date of the enact-
16
ment of this Act.
