To amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to clarify that employment
in any position at a nonprofit organization is a public service job for
purposes of the public service loan forgiveness program, and for other
purposes.

A BILL
To amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 to clarify
that employment in any position at a nonprofit organiza-
tion is a public service job for purposes of the public
service loan forgiveness program, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Public Service Expan-
4
sion Act’’.

SEC. 2. REPAYMENT PLAN FOR PUBLIC SERVICE EMPLOY-

EES.

Section 455(m)(3)(B) of the Higher Education Act
3
of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1087e(m)(3)(B)) is amended—
4
(1) in clause (i)—
5
(A) by inserting ‘‘or’’ after ‘‘public library
6
sciences,’’; and
7
(B) by striking ‘‘, or at an organization
8
that is described in section 501(c)(3) of the In-
9
ternal Revenue Code of 1986 and exempt from
10
taxation under section 501(a) of such Code; or’’
11
and inserting a semicolon;
12
(2) by redesignating clause (ii) as clause (iii);
13
and
14
(3) by inserting after clause (i), the following:
15
‘‘(ii) a full time job in any position at
16
an organization that is described in section
17
501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of
18
1986 and exempt from taxation under sec-
19
tion 501(a) of such Code, without regard
20
to the mission of such organization; or’’.
