Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. ALLOWING MEMBERS OF FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED 1 TRIBES TO USE THEIR TRIBAL GOVERNMENT 2 IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENTS IN OBTAINING 3 A FIREARM FROM A FEDERALLY LICENSED 4 FIREARMS DEALER. 5 (a) IN GENERAL.—Section 922(t)(1)(D) of title 18, 6 United States Code, is amended by inserting ‘‘, or a valid 7 identification document issued by a Tribal government’’ 8 before the period. 9 (b) DEFINITION.—Section 921(a) of such title is 10 amended by adding at the end the following: 11 ‘‘(38) The term ‘Tribal government’ means the recog- 12 nized governing body of any Indian or Alaska Native 13 Tribe, band, nation, pueblo, village, community, compo- 14 nent band, or component reservation, individually identi- 15 fied (including parenthetically) in the list published most 16 recently as of the date of the enactment of this paragraph 17 pursuant to section 104(a) of the Federally Recognized 18 Indian Tribe List Act of 1994 (25 U.S.C. 5131(a)).’’. 19 (c) EFFECTIVE DATE.—The amendments made by 20 this section shall take effect on the date that is 90 days 21 after the date of enactment of this Act. 22 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 03:55 Mar 31, 2023 Jkt 039200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\S909.IS S909 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS
