for certain chemicals, and for other purposes.

A BILL
To amend the Safe Drinking Water Act to require the Ad-
ministrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to
set maximum contaminant levels for certain chemicals,
and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ββProtect Drinking
4
Water from PFAS Act of 2019ββ.

SEC. 2. MAXIMUM CONTAMINANT LEVELS.

Section 1412(b)(2) of the Safe Drinking Water Act
2
(42 U.S.C. 300gβ1(b)(2)) is amended by adding at the
3
end the following:
4
ββ(D) PERFLUORINATED COMPOUNDS.β
5
ββ(i) REQUIRED
REGULATIONS.βNot
6
later than 2 years after the date of enact-
7
ment of the Protect Drinking Water from
8
PFAS Act of 2019, the Administrator
9
shall publish a maximum contaminant level
10
and promulgate a national primary drink-
11
ing water regulation for perfluoroalkyl and
12
polyfluoroalkyl substances.

ββ(ii) MONITORING.βIn establishing
14
monitoring requirements under the na-
15
tional primary drinking water regulation
16
for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl sub-
17
stances under clause (i), the Administrator
18
shallβ
19
ββ(I) consider options for tailoring
20
monitoring requirements for public
21
water systems that do not detect, or
22
are reliably and consistently below the
23
maximum contaminant level for, those
24
substances; and
