Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. PAYMENT OF EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE OR SUB- 1 SISTENCE ALLOWANCES TO CERTAIN INDI- 2 VIDUALS DURING SEMESTER BREAKS. 3 Section 3680(a)(2) of title 38, United States Code, 4 is amended— 5 (1) in subparagraph (A), by striking ‘‘; or’’ and 6 inserting a semicolon; 7 (2) in subparagraph (B)(ii), by striking ‘‘dis- 8 approval.’’ and inserting ‘‘disapproval; or’’; 9 (3) by adding at the end the following new sub- 10 paragraph: 11 ‘‘(C) during periods between school terms, 12 quarters, or semesters where the educational institu- 13 tion certifies the enrollment of the eligible veteran or 14 eligible person on an individual term basis if— 15 ‘‘(i) the period between those terms, quar- 16 ters, or semesters does not exceed eight weeks; 17 and 18 ‘‘(ii) both terms, quarters, or semesters im- 19 mediately preceding and immediately following 20 the period are not shorter in length than the 21 period.’’; and 22 (4) by adding at the end the following new 23 paragraph: 24 ‘‘(3) Notwithstanding any other provision of this 25 chapter or chapter 35 of this title, any payment of an edu- 26 VerDate Sep 11 2014 21:43 Apr 19, 2019 Jkt 089200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H2230.IH H2230 pamtmann on DSKBFK8HB2PROD with BILLS 3 •HR 2230 IH cational assistance allowance described in paragraph 1 (2)(C) of this subsection shall not— 2 ‘‘(A) be charged against the entitlement of any 3 individual under this chapter; or 4 ‘‘(B) be counted toward the aggregate period 5 for which section 3695 of this title limits the receipt 6 of assistance of an individual.’’. 7 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 20:08 Apr 22, 2019 Jkt 089200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H2230.IH H2230 pamtmann on DSKBFK8HB2PROD with BILLS
