Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Stephen Hacala Poppy 4 Seed Safety Act’’. 5 SEC. 2. UNSAFE POPPY SEEDS AS ADULTERANTS IN FOOD. 10 Section 301 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic 11 Act (21 U.S.C. 331) is amended by adding at the end the 12 following: 13 ‘‘(fff) Selling, or offering to sell, directly to con- 14 sumers a food that is or contains poppy seeds, including 15 concentrates, metabolites, constituents, or extracts of 16 poppy seeds, that contain levels of morphine, codeine, or 17 other alkaloid compounds that may render the food inju- 18 rious to health.’’. 19 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:27 Apr 16, 2019 Jkt 089200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H2078.IH H2078 pamtmann on DSKBFK8HB2PROD with BILLS
