To provide temporary protected status for certain nationals
of Liberia, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protect Our Liberian
4
Community Act of 2019’’.
5
SEC. 2. TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS FOR CERTAIN NA-
6
TIONALS OF LIBERIA.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Notwithstanding any other provi-
8
sion of law, a national of Liberia shall be deemed to be
9
registered for temporary protected status in the United

States under section 244(c) of the Immigration and Na-
1
tionality Act (8 U.S.C. 1254a(c)) as of April 1, 2019, for
2
a period of 3 years if such national of Liberia was—
3
(1) registered for temporary protected status at
4
any time; and
5
(2) present in the United States under deferred
6
enforced departure, in accordance with the Presi-
7
dential Memorandum issued on March 27, 2018, on
8
March 30, 2019.

(b) AUTOMATIC EXTENSION OF EMPLOYMENT AU-
10
THORIZATION.—
11
(1) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary of Homeland
12
Security (referred to in this section as the ‘‘Sec-
13
retary’’) shall automatically extend the employment
14
authorization of nationals of Liberia described in
15
subsection (a) for the 3-year period beginning on
16
April 1, 2019, and the employment authorization
17
documents of such nationals of Liberia shall be valid
18
for that period.

(2) PUBLICATION.—Not later than 14 days
20
after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Sec-
21
retary shall publish in the Federal Register notifica-
22
tion of the extension under paragraph (1).

(3) LAPSE IN AUTHORIZATION.—Any lapse in
24
employment authorization of a national of Liberia

described in subsection (a) between April 1, 2019,

and the date of the enactment of this Act shall not
2
affect the extension under paragraph (1) or the va-
3
lidity of the employment authorization document of
4
such national of Liberia for the period described in
5
that paragraph.

(4) DOCUMENTATION.—Not later than 30 days
7
after the date on which a national of Liberia de-
8
scribed in subsection (a) submits a request for docu-
9
mentation of the extension under paragraph (1), the
10
Secretary shall provide such documentation to the
11
national of Liberia.
