A BILL
To allow certain off-duty law enforcement officers and retired
law enforcement officers to carry a concealed firearm
to protect children in a school zone.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Police Officers Pro-
4
tecting Children Act’’.

SEC. 2. CERTAIN OFF-DUTY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

AND RETIRED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

ALLOWED TO CARRY A CONCEALED FIRE-
3
ARM, AND DISCHARGE A FIREARM, IN A
4
SCHOOL ZONE.

Section 922(q) of title 18, United States Code, is
6
amended—
7
(1) in paragraph (2)(B)—
8
(A) by striking ‘‘or’’ at the end of clause
9
(vi); and
10
(B) by redesignating clause (vii) as clause
11
(ix) and inserting after clause (vi) the following:
12
‘‘(vii) by an off-duty law enforcement offi-
13
cer who is a qualified law enforcement officer
14
(as defined in section 926B) and is authorized
15
under such section to carry a concealed firearm,
16
if the firearm is concealed;
17
‘‘(viii) by a qualified retired law enforce-
18
ment officer (as defined in section 926C) who
19
is authorized under such section to carry a con-
20
cealed firearm, if the firearm is concealed; or’’;
21
and
22
(2) in paragraph (3)(B)—
23
(A) by striking ‘‘or’’ at the end of clause
24
(iii);

(B) by striking the period at the end of

clause (iv) and inserting a semicolon; and
2
(C) by adding at the end the following:

‘‘(v) by an off-duty law enforcement officer
4
who is a qualified law enforcement officer (as
5
defined in section 926B) and is authorized
6
under such section to carry a concealed firearm;
7
or
8
‘‘(vi) by a qualified retired law enforcement
9
officer (as defined in section 926C) who is au-
10
thorized under such section to carry a concealed
11
firearm.’’.
