A BILL
To amend title 38, United States Code, to direct the Sec-
retary of Veterans Affairs to furnish headstones or mark-
ers to private cemeteries for graves of certain veterans
without next of kin.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Private Cemeteries
4
Honoring Veterans in the Absence of Next of Kin Act’’.

HEADSTONES OR MARKERS FOR GRAVES OF

CERTAIN VETERANS.

Section 2306(d) of title 38, United States Code, is
4
amended by adding at the end the following new para-
5
graph:

‘‘(6) If the Secretary is unable to identify any next
7
of kin of a deceased individual covered by this subsection,
8
a private cemetery may request the Secretary to furnish—
9
‘‘(A) a headstone or marker for the grave of the
10
deceased individual pursuant to paragraph (1); or
11
‘‘(B) a medallion or other device to signify the
12
deceased individual’s status as a veteran pursuant to
13
paragraph (4).’’.
