What This Bill Does
This bill changes an earlier law about water infrastructure to keep Delaware River Basin conservation programs running longer. It adds Maryland to the list of states involved in these programs and changes when the programs stop running.
Who It Affects
The federal government agency that runs the grant program, states that border the Delaware River (Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania), Maryland, and communities that receive grants for conservation projects.
Key Provisions
* The bill expands the Delaware River Basin from 4 states to 5 states by adding Maryland (Sec. 2(b))
* The federal official running the grant program can give priority to projects that help small, rural or disadvantaged communities (Sec. 2(c))
* The federal official cannot give grants to Federal-State commissions (Sec. 2(c))
* The grant program continues until 2030 instead of ending in 2023 (Sec. 2(d))
What Changes
If this becomes law, Maryland becomes part of the Delaware River Basin conservation programs. The grant program that would have ended gets extended to 2030. Project leaders can now prioritize help for small, rural and disadvantaged communities when choosing which projects to fund.
