JOINT RESOLUTION
Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United
States relative to equal rights for men and women.

(two-thirds of each House concurring therein), That the fol-

lowing article is proposed as an amendment to the Con-
2
stitution of the United States, which shall be valid to all
3
intents and purposes as part of the Constitution when
4
ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the several
5
States:

‘‘ARTICLE —
7
‘‘SECTION 1. Women shall have equal rights in the
8
United States and every place subject to its jurisdiction.
9
Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or
10
abridged by the United States or by any State on account
11
of sex.
12
‘‘SECTION 2. Congress and the several States shall
13
have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the
14
provisions of this article.
15
‘‘SECTION 3. This amendment shall take effect two
16
years after the date of ratification.’’.
