A BILL
To require the Secretary of Agriculture to release rever-
sionary and reserved interests in certain land in the
Coconino National Forest in the State of Arizona.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Lowell Observatory
4
Conveyance Act’’.

SEC. 2. DEFINITIONS.

In this Act:

(1) OBSERVATORY.—The term ‘‘Observatory’’
8
means the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona.

(2) SECRETARY.—The term ‘‘Secretary’’ means

the Secretary of Agriculture, acting through the
2
Chief of the Forest Service.

SEC. 3. RELEASE OF REVERSIONARY AND RESERVED IN-
4
TERESTS.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Subject to valid existing rights,
6
if the Observatory makes a written request to the Sec-
7
retary for conveyance of the parcel of land described in
8
subsection (b) not later than 180 days after the date of
9
enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall convey to the
10
Observatory, without consideration and by quitclaim deed,
11
all right, title, and interest of the United States in and
12
to that parcel of land.

(b) LAND DESCRIBED.—The parcel of land to be con-
14
veyed under subsection (a) is the National Forest System
15
land—
16
(1) conveyed by the United States to Percival
17
Lowell and his heirs by the Act entitled ‘‘An Act
18
granting certain lands in the Coconino National For-
19
est, in Arizona, for observatory purposes’’, approved
20
May 30, 1910 (36 Stat. 452; chapter 261); and
21
(2) described as sec. 17, T. 21 N., R. 7 E., of
22
the Gila and Salt River base and meridian in
23
Coconino County, Arizona.
