Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Chicano Park Preser- 4 vation Act’’. 5 SEC. 2. SPECIAL RESOURCE STUDY. 6 (a) STUDY.—The Secretary of the Interior shall con- 7 duct a special resource study of Chicano Park and its mu- 8 rals located in San Diego, California. 9 VerDate Sep 11 2014 21:01 Jan 25, 2019 Jkt 089200 PO 00000 Frm 00001 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H486.IH H486 pbinns on DSK79D2C42PROD with BILLS 2 •HR 486 IH (b) CONTENTS.—In conducting the study under sub- 1 section (a), the Secretary shall— 2 (1) evaluate the national significance of the 3 site; 4 (2) determine the suitability and feasibility of 5 designating the site as an Affiliated Site of the Na- 6 tional Park System; 7 (3) consider other alternatives for preservation, 8 protection, and interpretation of Chicano Park and 9 its murals by Federal, State, or local governmental 10 entities, or private and nonprofit organizations; 11 (4) consult with interested Federal, State, or 12 local governmental entities, private and nonprofit or- 13 ganizations or any other interested individuals; and 14 (5) identify cost estimates for any development, 15 interpretation, operation, and maintenance associ- 16 ated with the alternatives. 17 (c) APPLICABLE LAW.—The study required under 18 subsection (a) shall be conducted in accordance with sec- 19 tion 100507 of title 54, United States Code, except that 20 the study shall not consider any options that involve Fed- 21 eral acquisition of lands, interests in lands, or any other 22 property related to the Chicano Park and its murals. 23 (d) REPORT.—Not later than 18 months after the 24 date on which funds are first made available for the study 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 21:01 Jan 25, 2019 Jkt 089200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H486.IH H486 pbinns on DSK79D2C42PROD with BILLS 3 •HR 486 IH under subsection (a), the Secretary shall submit to the 1 Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Rep- 2 resentatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural 3 Resources of the Senate a report containing the results 4 of the study and any conclusions and recommendations of 5 the Secretary. 6 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 21:01 Jan 25, 2019 Jkt 089200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H486.IH H486 pbinns on DSK79D2C42PROD with BILLS
