A BILL
To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a
special resource study of the George W. Bush Childhood
Home, located at 1412 West Ohio Avenue, Midland,
Texas, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘George W. Bush Child-
4
hood Home Study Act’’.
5
SEC. 2. SPECIAL RESOURCE STUDY.
6
(a) STUDY.—The Secretary of the Interior shall con-
7
duct a special resource study of the George W. Bush

Childhood Home, located at 1412 West Ohio Avenue, Mid-

land, Texas (referred to in this section as the ‘‘site’’).
2
(b) CONTENTS.—In conducting the study under sub-
3
section (a), the Secretary shall—
4
(1) evaluate the national significance of the
5
site;
6
(2) determine the suitability and feasibility of
7
designating the site as a unit of the National Park
8
System;
9
(3) consider other alternatives for preservation,
10
protection, and interpretation of the site by Federal,
11
State, or local governmental entities, or private and
12
nonprofit organizations;
13
(4) consult with interested Federal, State, or
14
local governmental entities, private and nonprofit or-
15
ganizations or any other interested individuals;
16
(5) determine the effect of the designation of
17
the site as a unit of the National Park System on
18
existing commercial and recreational uses, and the
19
effect on State and local governments to manage
20
those activities;
21
(6) identify any authorities, including con-
22
demnation, that will compel or permit the Secretary
23
to influence or participate in local land use decisions
24
(such as zoning) or place restrictions on non-Federal

land if the site is designated a unit of the National

Park System; and
2
(7) identify cost estimates for any Federal ac-
3
quisition, development, interpretation, operation, and
4
maintenance associated with the alternatives.
5
(c) APPLICABLE LAW.—The study required under
6
subsection (a) shall be conducted in accordance with sec-
7
tion 100507 of title 54, United States Code.
8
(d) STUDY RESULTS.—Not later than 3 years after
9
the date on which funds are first made available for the
10
study under subsection (a), the Secretary shall submit to
11
the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Rep-
12
resentatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural
13
Resources of the Senate the results of the study and any
14
conclusions and recommendations of the Secretary.
