A BILL
To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a
special resource study of the site known as ‘‘Amache’’
in the State of Colorado.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Amache Study Act’’.
4
SEC. 2. DEFINITIONS.
5
In this Act:

(1) SECRETARY.—The term ‘‘Secretary’’ means
7
the Secretary of the Interior.

(2) STUDY
AREA.—The term ‘‘study area’’
1
means the site known as ‘‘Amache’’, ‘‘Camp
2
Amache’’, and ‘‘Granada Relocation Center’’ in Gra-
3
nada, Colorado, which was 1 of the 10 relocation
4
centers where Japanese Americans were incarcerated
5
during World War II.

SEC. 3. AMACHE SPECIAL RESOURCE STUDY.

(a) IN GENERAL.—The Secretary shall conduct a
8
special resource study of the study area.
9
(b) CONTENTS.—In conducting the study under sub-
10
section (a), the Secretary shall—
11
(1) evaluate the national significance of the
12
study area;
13
(2) determine the suitability and feasibility of
14
designating the study area as a unit of the National
15
Park System;
16
(3) consider other alternatives for preservation,
17
protection, and interpretation of the study area by
18
the Federal Government, State or local government
19
entities, or private and nonprofit organizations;
20
(4) consult with interested Federal agencies,
21
State or local governmental entities, private and
22
nonprofit organizations, or any other interested indi-
23
viduals; and

(5) identify cost estimates for any Federal ac-

quisition, development, interpretation, operation, and
2
maintenance associated with the alternatives de-
3
scribed in paragraphs (2) and (3).

(c) APPLICABLE LAW.—The study required under
5
subsection (a) shall be conducted in accordance with sec-
6
tion 100507 of title 54, United States Code.
7
(d) REPORT.—Not later than 3 years after the date
8
on which funds are first made available to carry out the
9
study under subsection (a), the Secretary shall submit to
10
the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Rep-
11
resentatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural
12
Resources of the Senate a report that describes—
13
(1) the results of the study; and
14
(2) any conclusions and recommendations of the
15
Secretary.
